The Department of Public Health’s State Office of Vital Records maintains all of Georgia’s birth and death certificates. It also holds marriage records from 1952 to 1996. Although the department can confirm divorces, copies of the records are held by the Clerk of the Superior Court in the county where the divorce was granted.

Persons must be at least 18 years of age to apply for a marriage license. If either person is 17 years of age, applicants must complete premarital education and the older applicant can be no more than 4 years older than the younger applicant.
